These are my parents: Betsy and Pucho.

They were blissfully married for 53 years and two people more in love or more respectful toward each other than these two, you have probably never seen. My mother recently passed away and I have been spending a lot of time in Atlanta with my father and brother. We all miss her so very, very much and we keep urging ourselves and each other to remember her and remember all the good times. I have been spending a lot of time perusing my parent’s wedding album. I have always loved it. They were married in 1955, so the photography is all black and white and the fashion is effortlessly, classically beautiful. The dresses. The cocktail rings. The men in hats. The beauty of it all never ceases to take my breath away. And the part that always gets me is the unmistakable love between the two of them. In honor of them both, in celebration of their love and in celebration of Mom’s life, I give you Betsy and Pucho at the beginning of their journey together, in 1955.

Gigi and Bubba, aka Mom’s parents…
In the days before the remote, Bubba used to give me a quarter to change the channel or turn up the volume on the TV. Every time. If only I had invested… Sigh.
And Mom’s sister, Ava Gardner…

That’s not really Ava Gardner. That’s my fabulous Aunt Ann. But everybody always said she looked like Ava Gardner. She was a little bit crazy, too, but in the very best possible way.
I’m so lucky to be a part of it all.
