Pants: I’ll take mine big and slouchy

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

I’ve been a dress girl for most of my life. I was blessed with a lovely pear shape (no shoulders, tiny waist, big ass) and pant shopping has always proven difficult. Needless to say, an a-line dress is my oldest friend and the clothing item with which I am the most comfortable.

But in the past year or so, I have really begun to embrace the pant (mainly due to the pant creations of Rachel Comey and Vanessa Bruno, with which I am completely obsessed). Make ‘em big, make ‘em slouchy, cover ‘em in a bold print, or do all 3. The bigger and bolder, the better. Honestly, I’m finding that a great pant is maybe even better than a great dress…

My husband really hates the majority of my pant choices and I definitely get some looks on the street; but the way I look at it, I’m usually accentuating my 2 biggest assets: my waist and my personality. Bring on the crazy pants. I am definitely not afraid to rock ‘em!

Summer into fall

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Oh my, afraid it’s end of Aug :/ and NYC fashion week is literally just around the corner.  If that doesn’t scream end of summer!  I often describe myself as such a summer wh{bleep}re.  So top of my list to bring into fall…easy, sunshine.  Yes, I’ll take a big dose of sunshine into fall, please.

Boy crush

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

As completely boy crazy as I am, I don’t really talk about men too much on the blog. We don’t sell men’s clothes and, to be perfectly honest, I don’t really notice that much what men are wearing (or what the trends are in menswear, anyway). Well this coming weekend, Arlene and I will be styling 3 men — triplets. The first thought that came to both of us was, what the hell do men even wear these days?? I’m still not sure, but all of these guys seem to have it goin’ on…

What I love most about all of these shots is that these guys are all really expressing their personalities through their clothing and accessories. Men don’t have all the fun options that us ladies have, so kudos to them for finding a way to make these looks their own. Thanks for the inspiration, guys!

Girl Friday: Eva Fontanelli

Friday, July 1st, 2011

This week’s Girl Friday is Italian editor and stylist, Eva Fontanelli.  She’s been catching my eye for awhile now. Quirky and original with an affinity for the oversized, her style is right up my alley. I love her hair, I love her smile, I love her gigantic pants and all of her maxis. She’s younger than me and can certainly pull off things that I can’t, but she is definitely my muse of the moment.

Love seeing her in this skirt twice.

Seriously, how cute is she?

Sheer perfection

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I’ve been seeing so much sheer lately. I love it and actually have quite a bit of it in my wardrobe (okay, honestly, who’s really surprised by that?) I’ve never really thought about how to wear it. I’ve always just kind of mindlessly thrown a slip or tube dress or tank dress of some sort under a sheer dress or skirt and thrown a sheer top right on over my bra. If you’re confused by how to do sheer, just take the lead from these stylish gals captured by some stylish photogs. They all make it look so easy.

My newest style crush, Eva Fontanelli, doing it with ease.

What I’ve learned is that the key to mastering this look is to make your layering look intentional. You’re not going to hide the fact that you’re wearing something see-through (and God help you if you don’t know it before you leave the house!) And what I love about all of the above looks is that they’re balanced. Bringing the sexy down with a boot or a blazer, a flat or a sweater… it’s very refreshing to see. So what do you say? Are you ready to rock some sheer?

Summery Whites

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

It’s officially Summer which means it’s time to break out those summery whites. I just love the fresh, crisp and cool feeling of white. And let’s face it, nothing’ll show off that summer tan better!

The denim shirt makes a comeback…

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

And I am on the bandwagon.

My memories of the denim shirt revolve mainly around my obsession with Jim Morrison in the early 80s.

Damn, he's hot.

The denim shirt (and my personal style) have evolved quite a bit since then and now the denim shirt seems to be a staple in any fashionable girl’s wardrobe.

With denim, leather, skirts, pants, or even a bathing suit, the denim shirt is my new go-to. And this one from Surface To Air is the one I’m rocking all summer long. Long live the denim shirt!

The long and the short of it

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

So, I have this crazy crop of hair…Brandon will vouch.  And about this time of year all I want to do is take it from long to short, but I’ve been strongly advised {for the past thirty-some years by every hair stylist that has laid eyes on my coif} to leave it long & leave it be with promises of manageability.  Needless to say, I have much admiration for women that can, will & love to rock a short do, like these ladies…starting with 203040 favorite, Ms Yasmin Sewell.

I’ll take some prints with my pants, please.

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

I’ve been truly obsessed lately with printed pants and onesies. A printed top, skirt or dress is really nothing new for me. But a printed pant? That’s new.

The obsession all started with this pant…

The printed Denizen pant from Rachel Comey

And then continued with the arrival of these silk onesies from Surface to Air and Rachel Comey…

L.O.V.E. this trend!

Are you ready to rock a printed pant??
