Girl power: Yestadt Millinery
Monday, March 1st, 2010Molly Yestadt and Yestadt Millinery are stars on the rise. For Fall09, without having ever sold a single hat to a boutique, they created a collection of porkpie hats for Marc Jacobs mens and are now selling their wares in stores like Intermix and Henri Bendel. She’s been likened to be the next Stephen Jones and that’s not undeserved flattery. Celebrities and designers have both taken notice of Molly’s unique and fabulous hats — Rhianna and Leighton Meester have been spotted in her creations, and in addition to her collaboration with Marc Jacobs, she’s created headgear for Vena Cava and Thom Browne — they did men’s pillboxes. Pillboxes! She is a woman who truly lives her art — she is passionate about hat-making and clearly does it because she loves it.
During our New York trip we had the felicitious good fortune to meet Molly and her equally fabulous business partner, Jane, and get a sneak peek at what they’re doing for Fall.

I love hats and quickly and eagerly jump aboard whatever hat trend happens to be around, but I’m not sure that I would ever buy a hat without trying it on. We would love to carry Yestadt in our shop, but do people buy hats online? Would you??
