Personal diary: a little more NYC

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Every time Fashion Week and Market week roll around, Arlene and I take a different attack. Our NY schedule is always dictated by the Rachel Comey show. (In case it’s not overwhelmingly evident, we are kind of obsessed with all things Comey.) This time around the Comey show was actually the day before Fashion Week. So we went in for that, stayed for 2 days, and then went back 2 weeks later for 1 night/2 days.

Here’s some more snaps from our trip. We always have the best time…

The music at Comey was AH MAY ZING — these 2 female drummers who call themselves “IUD.” Rachel is just so cool. And the internet celebz know it, too…

Arlene and I joke that what we really look forward to the most is the food, and the fashion is just the icing on top. Our latest food discovery is the super-delicious and adorable Peels (on Bowery, right across the street from Rogan — GO!)

There’s always so much to do and see in NYC, I can’t wait until next time!

We love Rachel Comey

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Big news last week for Rachel Comey fans: a brand new 24/7 livestream website, as well as Twitter and Tumblr accounts, which means lots and lots of Rachel Comey! We’ve always loved her clever and super-fun men’s website (where the shoes hop into motion when you hover on them), so we’re especially excited about having yet another outlet to feed our Rachel Comey obsession.

While visiting their Tumblr page, I saw this gorgeous video shot backstage at her Spring/Summer 2012 show. So beautiful. Hope you enjoy it!

Tuesday’s treasure…Rachel Comey resort 2012

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Resort is typically always a tiny little market, but what’s fun about this tiny little market is that collections are packed with a festive or getaway vibe…who doesn’t love that?  Rachel Comey resort 2012 is extra special {well, her collections are always extra special} but this is her first for RTW and showcased in a lookbook format :)  There’s plenty that I love here, but my favorites are the blush strapless onesie with overlay {hello hostess with the mostess!}, the smoking suit with tassel belt, the silk tie dye top & harem pant {big tie dye fan here since Prada 04!} and last, but not least the long satin maxi.  Can’t wait till Comey resort hits The Shop in November!

many thanks to Rachel Comey for the images

Rachel Comey Lurve

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Loving all of our new pieces from Rachel Comey, especially the Integer dress.

Actually, we’re loving all things white for Summer.

But anyway, we’re obviously not the only ones who love Rachel Comey and this dress. I just came across these shots by Maya of the lovely blog Turned Out that she did for Lurve Magazine.

See all the shots from the Lurve Magazine shoot here (with even more Rachel Comey pieces, yeah!) And see all of our new Rachel Comey arrivals here.

Mixing it up

Friday, March 18th, 2011

We just shot our latest Style It feature for the site — a printed silk pant. I didn’t really think about it as some sort of print mixing challenge, but print mixing definitely came into the… well, mix.

We have a rack right by our desks where we keep the things we’re currently working with. Our printed silk pant was hanging in the front, and peeking out from the rack of items behind was this pink paisley print blouse. They instantly looked so cute together!

It got me thinking about all the confusion around this whole print mixing thing. And you know what? It shouldn’t be that daunting. In fact, it’s actually kind of fun.

The socks? Nice.

Tip from Garance: if you want to get snapped by a streetstyle photog, "have a phone, of course!"

My favorite. Masterful.

Apparently there are “rules” (like stay in the same — or a complementary — color family), but it’s really just a chance to have some fun with good, old-fashioned trial and error. So if you haven’t yet, try it. Whatever the fabric and whatever the season, it’s always a good time to unleash your inner-kindergartner and mix it up a little.

The non-statement - part DEUX

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

I really love this non-statement business.  For me, less has always been more.  With the crazy madness that rules my life, the simpler is just better.

Chocolate part deux: my obsession with brown & black

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Started packing for Fashion Week last night. Could go on for hours about that whole process, but I won’t (unless you beg me to). As I was planning my outfits (a must!), I was also thinking about outerwear. My outerwear has to keep me warm, but it can’t be too bulky. I’ll be in and out of showrooms and studios and shows, much of the time having to either stand holding my coat or continue wearing it. A challenge, let me tell you. One of the coats I really want to take is my Rachel Comey Second Husband coat.

Since it’s camel and most of my leg coverings (and hat and gloves) are black, I started surfing brown and black. What a delicious combination.

All black with a brown shoe at Margiela. Love that.

This is a cheat, but how you can resist that gorgeous brown braid with that adorable black head wrap?

What to wear when meeting your father’s new girlfriend for the 1st time — 3 nights in a row

Friday, November 12th, 2010

So as you can see from the title, I just met my father’s new girlfriend*. My mother passed away a year and a half ago and she and my dad were blissfully married for 53 years. When she died, his whole world stopped. He was all alone and so so sad. We all were. My mom was just one of those people that don’t come along that often and we all — my brother, my dad, me — miss her soooo much.

Well Dad started dating. And now he’s found this very nice and lovely woman with whom he’s been spending alllotttt of time. This past Monday he was being honored by the Metro Atlanta YMCA and I, of course, wanted to be there. Well, of course, so did his girlfriend. And her 31-yr old daughter. Awk. Ward. I could talk for hours about this, but I’m going to try and focus on the fashion aspect. I was going to be in Atlanta for 3 nights and the only consistent between the 3 nights were Dad and the girlfriend. What. to. Wear!

{Saturday night.}

Meet the girlfriend for the first time. Wine at girlfriend’s house. Dinner at the City Club. Just the 3 of us :)

My Gary Graham pintuck dress and SFRD leather shirt

Worn with my Humanoid leggings and fabulous Rachel Comey Guises. The only problem with my only nighttime shoe option was that the girlfriend is approximately 4′ tall. So in these shoes I was like a full foot and half taller than her! Again, awkward!

{Sunday night.}

Meet the girlfriend’s 2 kids for the 1st time. A 3 hour dinner at the Country Club. Me, my brother, my brother-in-law, Dad, the girlfriend, the girlfriend’s daughter, and the girlfriend’s son.

wore this awesome fringe dress with burgundy tights and my giant-ess Guise platforms.

{Monday night.}

YMCA dinner honoring my dad. Lots of people and good friends from my parents’ past, bro, bro-in-law, girlfriend, girlfriend’s daughter.

You just cannot do better than a good black jumpsuit. In my book, it's even better than the little black dress. Love my Mason onesie!

And since it was a western theme (and my feet hurt and I was tired of feeling like a giant), I wore my Memos. Rachel Comey, in case you don’t know, I love you.

Comfiest. Shoes. Ever.

*The “girlfriend” is very, very nice. She’s interesting, and accomplished and makes my father very happy and I mean no disrespect by referring to her as “girlfriend.” I just, at this moment, don’t exactly know how to refer to her in a blog.

Lookbook love

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

We recently worked with a new photographer — the lovely and talented Erika Dufour. I’m not going to lie to you, we were scared. We’ve been working with Karl Rothenberger for a long time now and the 3 of us definitely have our groove down. We love and adore Karl, we love and adore his work and we love and adore working with him, BUT he lives in New York. This means that we’ve had to try and find someone local. Not an easy task, mind you.

Well, we are pleased to announce that the shoot with Erika went off without a hitch. Super-fun all-female (and a little canine) energy filled Erika’s studio that day, and the final result is more than we could have hoped for. We’re very happy and very proud. So happy and proud, in fact, that we’re posting it here. Hope you love it as much as we do =)
